Jewish Parents of Ottawa Students Association (JPOSA) Membership Terms
JPOSA’s objective is to support parents and families of Jewish children at Ottawa public schools. Members may seek out support from the Association when dealing with incidents or events of anti-semitism, anti-Jew hate or anti-Israeli hate.
Any parent/legal guardian/grandparent to a Jewish student currently in public school (K-12) in Ottawa, who completes the Association’s online membership application form, and in so doing accepts these Terms and the JPOSA Privacy Notice, shall be eligible to be a Member of JPOSA upon approval by the Leadership Committee.
Members are encouraged to:
- participate in ongoing conversations with fellow Members and to promote and further the objectives of the Association.
- participate in Association activities, including signing petitions, writing letters, and other activities when appropriate and aligned with the Member’s personal beliefs and motivations. All participation is at the sole discretion of the Member and Members take full responsibility for their own actions.
- volunteer for the Association to help further the objectives of the Association.
- assist in recruiting new members of the Association, if they feel the prospective members could benefit from and contribute to the Association.
Each member is accountable for their own actions and may participate in Association activities as much or as little as they choose, at their sole discretion. Active members are entitled to participate in the Association’s WhatsApp chat, website and receive invitations to Association activities, events, and meetings. Upon joining JPOSA, Members will be added to JPOSA’s WhatsApp Community.
A member can withdraw from the WhatsApp Community at any time, while still remaining a member of the Association.
A member can withdraw from the Association at any time and for any reason by contacting the Leadership Committee in writing or by e-mail.
The Association is led by a Leadership Committee comprised of at least 4 members of JPOSA. Membership of the Leadership Committee shall be reviewed on an annual basis with prior notice of at least two weeks to the members. All members of JPOSA may nominate themselves or another member to join the Leadership Committee, which shall be decided by consensus of the current Leadership Committee.
The Leadership Committee, in consultation with the Members, shall set the direction and activities of the Association. Members may make suggestions in writing or by e-mail to the Leadership Committee on any matter related to the Association, the Leadership Committee shall review, consider and respond to all suggestions in a timely manner.
Members are expected to:
- contribute to the goals and objectives of the Association.
- treat people with respect in their interactions with fellow members, the Leadership Committee, and the broader community when acting as a member of the Association, to maintain the dignity and good reputation of the Association.
- follow all guidance related to WhatsApp chats and the JPOSA website.
- maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information shared within the Association.
An individual’s status as a Member in the Association may be revoked for any reason, at the sole discretion of the Leadership Committee.
These membership terms may be amended from time to time by the Leadership Committee, in its sole discretion, but with notice to all Members.
